About this Project:
We met this young couple one summer during the Des Moines Art Festival. They were looking for a creative team to help with a few remodeling projects in a newly purchased downtown loft. We worked on several areas in their loft including the kitchen island, multifunctional entertainment center and master bedroom with closet expansion.
The new island is about sixteen feet long made of layered Baltic birch and stainless steel to connect with the industrial feel of the loft. At the free end of the island, we incorporated a real wood stump that protrudes through the counter surface! The custom steel and wood entertainment center serves as a gentle divider between the bedroom & living area and is functional from both sides. The master bathroom was updated with a custom built vanity, featuring a stainless steel trough sink and minimalistic polished faucets. New gray tile at the sink and throughout the shower blend with the industrial concrete floor and exposed ceiling coffers. If you’ve ever wondered what downtown living feels like, this is a must see!
